I had so much fun and was honored to be invited to the I Wish To Party event by Make a Wish Foundation. There is a special place in my heart for children and to be able to work with this company, who does so much for them, is truly an honor. I was elated to see such a great turn out of people who shared the same passion as me. This event was beautiful. The event took place at Revel Fulton Market which was the mix between metropolitan and chic elegance. There was not only a wide variety of drinks but also amazing snacks to chose from as well. Did I mention there was a live band? Who did great covers of music from the 2000s. I have to say there were quite a lot of people busting moves on the dance floor. However, after all the music, and the beautifully decorated venue, the main purpose was to raise money for children who need it. Anytime I can give back I try to because we do not realize how fortunate we are. This event surely was splendor and I implore you all to make sure you check out their website for more details if they decide to host one next year! Huge shout out to the lovely Chrissy who invited me, she was such a pleasure to work and collaborate with. 

​So we all know that I am a huge rom com nerd! One of my favorite movies growing up was, "How to Lost a Guy In Ten Days." Both Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are some of my favs. Therefore, I decided to use the timeless yellow dress as my choice of attire for this event. I was so excited when I found the identical dress on Poshmark. To be able to recreate this look was such an honor and I hope I did the lovely Kate Hudson proud. 

Overall, this was such a beautiful event and I am so thrilled that I got to be apart of it. Thank you to everyone who donated last night and a special shout out to the beautiful children who benefit from this event. I hope you all have a lovely Monday Lovebugs!

Hey love bugs Happy Halloween! This is one of my favorite holidays because you have the opportunity to dress up as someone else. As an actress, I always find it interesting to take on the persona of another character even if it is only for a day. As a little girl, I opted for every Disney Princess that I could think of. My mom would have so much fun helping me parade around my neighborhood in my glass slippers, mermaid tail, or even my golden dress. The best thing about Halloween is it allows people to unleash a bit of magic for one day.

This year I really thought about my costume and I was so excited to bring one of my favorite characters to life, Elle Woods. For those of you who may not know who she is, she is the main character from the movie Legally Blonde. As I was doing research on my costume and the fantastic actress Resse Witherspoon  I realized how many women can relate on such a deeper level to Elle. I like to call her the iceberg effect. On the surface, you see one thing and perceive her a certain way but if you stare closer you can see all the depth below that she brings. For this Halloween post, I am going to go into the 3 reasons why it's okay to be Legally Blond.

​Everyone knows the story of the beautiful, pink-loving, fashion student that gets dumped by her super attractive boyfriend. He basically tells her that she's not "serious" material and would ruin his reputation as a politician.  This hit home for me because everyone in their life has had a Warner. Whether it be in the workplace, in school as a bully, or someone in your family that hasn't believed in you. There is a way that we can all relate. I remember when I first started blogging people would constantly tell me, "that's not a real job," or "it's such a great hobby but you should have a backup plan." There's a consistently negative tone whether people realized it or not. In everything that one is passionate about there will be a Warner to be there to put them down. What I admire about Elle is that she was persistent in her emergence to prove Warner wrong. She may have started out going to law school for him but later in the movie she realizes that she HERSELF can do anything she puts her mind to, I mean law school, c'mon "like it's hard?" Elle becomes powerful in herself and that is a quality that I try to enlist in myself.

​Now let us all be real for a minute we all know those people that automatically assume just because someone looks, or acts a certain way, it means they're "dumb." It's unfortunate that our society creates these stereotypes and implants them in our culture and mind. What I love about Elle is that she proves people wrong time and time again. She shows that yes, you can be fashionable, caring, and a blond while also being extremely smart. I cannot begin to explain how many times in the workplace I have heard blond jokes. I also cannot tell you how many times people predetermine who I am before getting to know me strictly off my appearance. Of course, it's not just me, but every person has a stereotype that they are trying to break away from. What I love about Elle is that she doesn't let her stereotype hold her back and that is something to admire. 

​Elle shows that one should never be afraid to accept a challenge.  A lot of times I'm afraid to have new things thrown at me. However, I realize in life that challenges are what make you grow, in your life, your career, and ultimately in yourself. As Elle navigates her way through law school she taps into her potential realizing that she can do anything she puts her mind to.  
All in all, I was so excited to embody the blond bombshell Elle Woods this Halloween. As Halloween draws to an end I will take a bit of Elle with me as I go.

The scene that I decided to re-create was the Harvard scene because it is one of my favorites. It's one of the driving forces that push her to believe in herself. I had to do a bit of research but ended up finding the skirt, which is from J crew, on Poshmark. The top and sweater are all from my favorite consignment store Crossroads. The Tie and little Bruiser are all from my favorite, Target!

Hey guys thanks so much for checking out my newest blog post which is definitely something different then what I am used to doing. I know you're probably thinking, 'what Rachel? When did this come about'? First, most of you may or may not know but I am an actress. In fact, acting is ultimately why I started this website and blog. I wanted to be able to share my journey, my characters, and my  theatrical productions that I am apart of. This year I promised myself that I would start doing "Re-Imaginings" of some of my favorite fictional characters and film my version of them for you. This way, not only am I following my passion for acting, but I also get to geek out a bit to.

I have always been the child that would act out scenes from my favorite movies, to the point where it would annoy everyone around me. I remember watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer late at night with my dad. Buffy had a bit of everything, she was popular, beautiful, and a cheerleader who ultimately could kick butt when she needed to. Little bug-eyed me really looked up to her because she was everything that I strived to be. For those of you who don't know her story, here  is a quick summary. She is a normal girl who finds out that she's this slayer. She is one of the many long line of women picked to fight evil forces. I mean c'mon, how much more women power can you get? Not only is she agile, wise, and super stealthy but she also is relatable to so many people. She has moments where you forget that she's this chosen hero because ultimately she struggles with her sense of purpose and wants to be like everyone else. We  all have those moments in our lives where we just want to fit in. 

One of the other reasons that I adore Buffy is because she has a killer sense of style. I remember watching the show thinking: I need to have this outfit. One of her most iconic outfits is the black shirt with the leather red pants. I had to recreate this look and what better place to shoot it then a creepy looking forest? I wanted to keep her sassy style but added my own spin to it because I want to show how you can bring a bit of Buffy into your everyday style. The shirt is a black sheer cami that is a one piece. There's a bit of lace  towards the top that makes it a bit more fancy, hence, you can wear it out or in the work place with a nice blazer and dress pants. The maroon colored pants are jeggins that are super comfortable! I topped this outfit off with knee high leather black boots, what better shoes to fight evil forces with right? 

Buffy is notorious for wearing her leather jacket as well so I had to get some shots in a complimentary leather jacket. I did a post recently about this leather jacket, I found it on sale, at Crossroads, and I am so glad because it was such a steal!

I had so much fun creating and doing my own spin on Buffy! It's always fun to put on a persona for a bit and step outside of your comfort zone!
